The name Meranti is often used to encompass all non-specific Asian hardwood panels. Asian tropical woods range in color from dark red to white. The wood comes in a variety of densities, which means different species may be more suited to a specific use than the generic Meranti product.

Many of the Fancy Plywood species, including Birch, Red Oak, Maple, Walnut, Cherry and other veneers, are sourced from North America. These veneers are routinely imported in log form and sliced at the Asian mill.

Product Properties

The mills can typically produce products that range in thickness from 2.7mm to 18mm and in sizes 4'x6' up to 4'x10'. Many mills also produce plywood utilizing core veneers, lumber core, MDF and PBC.

The generic Meranti products are usually produced using solid tropical hardwood species for both the core and the face veneers. The faces are generally produced to a thickness from 0.55mm to 0.88mm, depending on desired finished panel thickness.

Fancy Plywoods are produced in a variety of face thicknesses. They can range from a 1/100" thickness all the way up to 1/42", depending on your specific needs.
